Every roof we build has to survive the same thing: heat for most of the year, rain that arrives sideways, and a storm season that turns up whether the roof was ready or not. That is the job. Everything below is how we approach it, and how to work out which part of it you actually need.
Which of these is you?
Most people call a roofer already convinced they need a whole new roof. Often they do not. Start with the honest version of your situation.
It is leaking right now.
Start with a repair, not a quote for a new roof. A surprising share of Cenla leaks are one failed pipe boot, one length of bad flashing, or a valley full of debris on a roof with years left in it. We will tell you if that is what you have.
It is old, and I am not sure.
Age alone does not condemn a roof. What matters is the state of the shingles, whether the decking underneath is sound, and how the flashing details have held. A free inspection answers it in an afternoon and costs you nothing either way.
A storm hit it.
Do not sign anything yet. Document the damage, get it covered so it stops getting worse, and understand your named-storm deductible before you file. That order matters, and it is where most homeowners lose money.
A roof is not just shingles.
Two quotes for the same house can differ by thousands and both say “architectural shingle.” The difference is almost always in the five things underneath, which are the five things that decide whether the roof lasts.
The decking
The plywood or board sheathing everything else is nailed to. If it is soft, wet or delaminating, nothing laid over it will hold. You only find out during tear-off, which is why we quote the possibility honestly instead of springing it on you.
The underlayment
The water barrier under the shingles. It is what keeps you dry in the hours between a shingle coming off and somebody getting up there. Cheap felt and modern synthetic are not the same product.
The flashing
Metal at every place the roof meets something else: a wall, a chimney, a valley, a vent. This is where the overwhelming majority of leaks actually start, and it is the first thing a fast crew cuts corners on.
The ventilation
Intake at the soffit, exhaust at the ridge. Get it wrong and a Louisiana attic cooks the roof from underneath, ageing shingles years early and voiding a fair number of manufacturer warranties in the process.
The edges
Drip edge, starter course, and how the perimeter is fastened. Wind does not peel a roof from the middle. It gets under an edge, and everything after that is a consequence of that first foot.
A roof rarely fails at a convenient time.

Questions, answered straight.
Less than the number on the shingle wrapper. Louisiana heat, UV and humidity are hard on asphalt, and a 30-year shingle here is realistically a 15 to 22 year roof depending on ventilation, colour and sun exposure. Metal goes considerably longer.
Ask for the physical address and then look it up. Ask how long the crew has worked together. A company that is genuinely here can tell you which street it was on last week. After a storm, that question filters out most of the trucks in your neighbourhood.
Sometimes, and sometimes not. If the shingles are worn out across the whole roof, a repair is a patch on a problem. If the field is sound and one detail failed, a proper repair is the correct answer and buys real years. We will tell you which one you have.
No. Most of what we do happens outside, and we can walk the finished job with you afterwards. You will want to be reachable, because tear-off is when surprises under the old roof turn up.
We tarp what is underneath, keep debris off the beds where we can, and finish with a magnetic sweep for nails across the drive and the yard. If a gutter is in the way of doing the edge properly, we will tell you before we touch it.
